A Random Sunday Night Update

Tyson is now 10 1/2 months old and these last few weeks have been the most fun we've had with him so far!  A couple weeks ago, Adam went on his annual poker trip to Oregon with one of his friends.  He was gone for four days, and it was so much fun being able to bond one on one with Tyson.  Adam is SuperDad and gets home by 4:00 so we always have to "share" our time playing with our boy.  I really enjoyed having Tyson all to myself.  We were both THRILLED, however, to have Adam back home.  There is nothing better than having our little family of three together at home.

Tyson is crawling and "cruising" all over the place.  I learned today that "cruising" is the term used in reference to him walking along things like couches, and toys where he can hold on.  He's pretty good at getting from here to there without yet walking.  I told Adam today that we should start working on his walking, and Adam informed me that the longer Tyson crawls, the more coordinated he will be (for sports).  He told me he doesn't want Tyson walking until he is two - he was joking of course, I think ;)

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE when Tyson will crawl over to me with a book. He sits in my lap and I read him the same book over and over.  Right now, his favorite book downstairs is, "Old MacDonald."  I think Tyson loves seeing the animals, and hearing mommy make funny animal sounds :)   At night I read him a variety of books before bed, but I always read him Good Night Moon, and usually Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.  His favorite thing right now is to squeek the pages with his fingers while I'm reading to him.  He will look up at me and smile - I LOVE it!

Tyson is also getting pretty good at playing ball.  He will throw the ball back and forth with Adam and I.  It is so adorable... although today I was trying to take a picture of him holding a ball for his first birthday invitations, and he kept throwing it at me.  Needless to say, I didn't get a picture!  He also loves bubbles in the bath, knocking over my tall towers, knocking things together to make noise, spinning the wheels on trucks, tractors, etc., dropping food from his high chair :(, mommy and daddy laughing, crawling over mommy and daddy, and so much more.

I imagine Tyson will continue to be more and more fun every day. I have truely cherished every second with him, and love watching him grow.  I already feel like my baby is becoming more and more like a little boy every day :(  So sad it's gone by so fast, but I'm so excited to do so many more things with him in the future.

My sweet little lion

This picture makes me smile and I hope one day it will make all these adorable babies smile too! I have met the most wonderful mom's of babies that range from being born in October-January. Tyson is the baby, baby of the group.  This is our fourth play date... can't wait for the next one!
My baby boy

My two men

Ava, Tyson, and Kailey

One of Tyson's signature moves... "The straight armed push"

Tyson is already 9 months... and I haven't been Blogging!

You know when you stop working out for a long time and you want to start again, but you just keep putting it off because you really don't know where to start?  That's how I feel about this blog!  So much time has gone by, and Tyson has done so much, I really don't know where to begin... but I'll do my best for the sake of the one person that reads my blog (Aunt Marilyn - thank you) and Tyson, because hopefully he'll want to read about his life one day!

Tyson is 9 1/2 months now.  At his 9 month appointment he measured in the 95th percentile for height and 75th percentile for weight.  He is perfect in every way!  I hope he continues to grow tall, we need some height in the Haugen family!

He has been saying "dadda" for a couple months now, and "momma" for the last month.  He "hoos" like an owl non stop and does this really cute grunt while pushing his arms out in front of him like he's pushing down on the air (I really don't know how to explain it but I love it).

He started moving around the house around 8 months, but didn't start actually crawling until October 30th.  He is ALL over the place, and wis in the kitchen when we're cooking.  We have learned to block him in to the family room with our ottoman, which has also given him a ton more room to play with it out of the way.

Our typical evening consists of Adam and I playing with Tyson on the floor.  Tyse loves peak a boo and when we crawl around with him.  He also enjoys all the toys we have out for him, especially a new walking toy we just got him... although Adam is not eager for him to walk anytime soon.  He read somewhere that the longer they crawl, the more developed in their coordination they will become... I think you know where that's going.

We eat dinner as a family at the table, then give Tyse a bath, followed by feeding him a bottle.  Then Adam gives him a kiss, tells him he loves him, and I take him upstairs.  I brush his teeth, give him his flouride, and read him 2, 3, or 4 books... depending on how long they are :)  I've gotten really good at memorizing Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Goodnight Moon.  Then it's lights out for Tysey Boy!

Tyson has always slept well.  He goes down at 7:00pm and wakes up at 7:00am.  We are not the parents that have to complain about no sleep with our baby and we feel so blessed about that!  When I wasn't working, Tyson would wake up at about 7:00 and I would nurse him in bed and he would fall back asleep with me in bed.  I miss that.

Which brings me to nursing... way to go all those moms out there that were able to nurse for 12 months.  I had hoped to do that, but when I went back to school, I was only able to pump one time a day  (during my 15 minute recess, which really ended up being 10 minutes with kids constantly trying to get into my locked door)!  Obviously pumping is not as good as actually nursing.  I thought that once the school year ended, I would be golden but I eventually lost my supply in July.  I do feel really proud that I was able to go 6 months, but sad I couldn't go longer.

Tyson is currently eating everything we eat. Tonight he ate Adam's famous spaghettii and meatballs and LOVED them!  He really likes fruit, especially satsuma oranges (probably because I couldn't get enough of them when I was pregnant), pizza, and mashed potatoes.  He likes anything he knows we're eating.  I eat a banana every day, so of course that has become one of Tyson's staples as well.

Other things worth mentioning:
Auntie Marci watched him at night for the first time last Saturday.  He fell asleep in her arms while watching the Husky game :)

Aunie Melanie and cousin Kailey watched him for a couple hours while I went to get a massage and Adam went out for a friend's birthday.

Tyson was a lion for Halloween and wore his costume four times! Once for pictures with the cousins, once for a Baby Halloween Party, he came to my class party, and lastly for Halloween.

Tyson LOVES when I blow bobbles at him while he's in the bath tub.

He LOVES when we make funny noises and funny faces.

He LOVES both sets of grandparents

My parents watch him Monday-Thursday, and Adam's parents watch him on Friday.

Grandpa and Grandma Barker watch him with Auntie Keri while we are at home Seahawks games.

We had to put his matress all the way down because he pulls himself up.

He has two teeth, bottom front and top front.

He has had 3 haircuts.

.... and I can't think of anything else right now so stay tuned for updates hopefully in the NEAR future!

Thanks again Aunt Marilyn for encouraging me to get on here!

6 Months goes by so FAST!

It has been FOREVER since I've posted.  I thought going on summer vacation would have opened me up to more time to post, but that has not been the case.  So much that has happened since the last post, I don't know where to start.

I'm officially on summer vacation from teaching and have been since June 22nd.  I am tutoring two students two days a week so I've managed to be at school still and busy.  My mom watching Tyson while I tutor.

Tyson is 6 months already! It really is crazy how time flies.  He has "dada" on repeat, is rolling over, has 1 tooth that is up quite a bit, and cut a second tooth.  We just started him on solids and he is sitting up pretty well on his own now, with a few slunches and fall overs.  We had six month pictures taken recently, I am so excited to see them.

Tyson met his second cousins from Germany, Kaia and Nicolas as well as his cousins from Idaho Anika and Tatiana this week.  It was so great to be with my dad's side of the family.

Tyson's Auntie Nicci gave him his first hair cut right before he turned 6 months. He looks so old now :(

Mariner's game #2... Happy 30th (early) Marci!

Tyson is a lucky boy! He has already been to two Mariner's game, one game in the Club Level and the second game in a Suite!  I have already blogged about his first game so I'll spare you... and me, and just fill you in on his second game.

Tyson's auntie Marci will be 30 on June 5th.  For her birthday, we rented a suite at the Mariner's game and celebrated a bit early.  It was the BEST way to watch a Mariner's game and very reasonable in price.  I have been lucky enough to be in a Mariner's suite many times in my life but none were as much fun as Marci's birthday party.

We had 21 people in the suite and were stocked on food and beverages.  We had an awesome view from left field and even got Dustin Ackley bobbleheads!  It was my neices', Kailey and Ava's, first game... they had a blast (except when the Moose barged in and made them both cry).

My sister Melanie made a beautiful birthday sign and my parents brought cupcakes.   There was an open suite near ours so the wonderful Mariner staff insisted I use it to nurse and change Tyson.  It was nice to have a baby and not have to worry about the noise.  I had a birthday announcement put on the scoreboard which was a great deal.  It came with a lot of "perks" including a $25 Ivar's gift card, a birthday baseball, a Mariner's hat, and a gift card to the team store.

The Mariner's played a great game but Brandon Leauge, our closer, unfortunately lost the game for us.

Happy 30th Birthday Marci!  We love you!

4 Months... Where has the time gone?!

Tyson had his four month appointment on May 21st.  He is 26 inches and 16 lbs.  He is healthy as can be and got his 4 month shots!  Our Dr. said he was ready for rice cereal so we have started adding a little to his milk during the day.

His hair is still continuing to grow like crazy (we're actually considering giving it a little trim over his ears).  He's smiling, laughing, gaining great strength in his neck, and wearing size 9 and even some size 12 clothes.

We are proud parents of our Tysey!

Play Date #1

I am so blessed to have met 5 wonderful girls who had babies around the same time I did.  I met them at Mommy and Baby group at the hospital and as we slowly all started to go back to work from our maternity leaves, we planned to have a get together so we'd stay in touch.

On April 29th, we had our first play date at Kim's house in Bonney Lake.  It was so great to see the girls again and see how much the babies had already grown.  We talked about what was going on in our babies' lives and snacked on some delicious treats.  The babies were sitting up, doing tummy time, and falling asleep in our arms while we chatted about motherhood.

The babies were all born between October and January, Peyton (Shelly's daughter) is the oldest and Tyson is the baby of the babies!  The other babies are Molly (Kelly's), Isaac (Kim's), Isla (Melinda's), and Ayden (Janelle's).  I am thrilled Tyson has already met such wonderful friends and hope he is friends with them forever.  I am also greatful to have made some new mommy friends and look forward to many playdates in the future (and possibly a mommy's night out).

Our next playdate is June 23rd, I can't wait to see how far our babies have come!

Tyson's a Talker

This video was taken over a month ago but I thought I'd share with you our little talker...  you should hear him now! This is nothing! I need a new video.

My Oh My! We took Tyson to his first Mariner's game!

From the moment we found out we were pregnant, one of the many thing we were really excited about was bringing our baby to Mariner's Opening Night.  Adam and I have made going to Opening Night a tradition and have gone every year since we've been together.  This year was especially special for us because we got to bring our 3 month old son.

Adam worked that day and I was on Spring Break from school.  We were both SO excited for the work day to be over so we could get what we had been waiting so long for started.  I bought Tyson a Mariner's hoodie a month before the game and couldn't wait to put him in it.

We weren't really sure how it was going to go with a 3 month old.  It was the furthest we had driven him (from Bonney Lake to Seattle).  He is generally really good in the car but not driving a constant 45 minutes before made us wonder how it was going to go.  The unknown and firsts are always kind of scary and having your first child means there are a lot of unknowns and firsts.  Tyson did great, he slept most of the way there and talked to us for the rest.  He is quite the talker!

Adam packed him into the stadium using our Baby Bjorn for the first time. Adam and Tyson both looked so cute together, there's just something so special about seeing a father and his son at the ball park.   We sat with Staci and her boyfriend Brett.  Staci surprised us with giving Tyson an adorable little Mariner's hat for Tyson's first game.  It's a little big now, but I can't wait until he grows into it.

The game went great.  We sat in the Club Level, hoping it would be a little calmer, but we just so happened to sit next to a couple really loud, young guys.  Every time Tyson fell asleep, they would yell and wake him up.  We had know idea how loud a Mariner's game could get!  We learned our lesson and bough earphones for the next game.

Tyson is going to be one spoiled boy.  He will be going to the Mariner's game to celebrate his Auntie Marci's birthday at the end of the month.  We rented a suite for the night so Tyson's Mariner's game experience will be in Club Level seats and Suite Level seats so far.  We hope Tyson grows up loving the Mariner's as much as we do.

Tyson's First Easter

We celebrated Tyson's first Easter at the Jensen's this year.  It was a beautiful day as we were surrounded by our family and Brian's family.  The kids had an Easter Egg hunt in the front yard, and we all sat in the back yard and soaked in the sun.

Because it was Tyson's first Easter, we had to have him get his picture taken with the Easter bunny.  We were a little nervous of handing our son over to a person in a scary bunny costume for fear he would scream but it was a pleasant experience. Tyson fell asleep in line, rather than waking him up, we decided to let him sleep.  So here you have it, a sleeping Tyson with the Easter bunny!

My brother also had an Easter Bunny/Egg Hunt up by his Emerald City Smoothie so Tyson and I went up to support my brother and enjoy the festivities.  Tyson got his picture taken with his cousin Ava with another Easter Bunny while he was there.  This Easter Bunny experience was not as successful as the other.

Tyson and Ava's Baptism

Tyson was Baptized on April 15th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Enumclaw.  I know most churches, even the one Adam and I attend (when we go), baptize when the baptizee (sp?) is able to choose but we really wanted Tyson to be baptized as a baby.

I was baptized at Trinity Lutheran, as were all my siblings.  We grew up there and even got confirmed there.   We attended church every Sunday but when we got older, my parents stopped taking us because they wanted us to choose where we wanted to attend church.  I found a great non denominational church in Sumner that I absolutely love.  The pastor is extremely engaging and I found myself really looking forward to going to church every Sunday, it's also much closer than Enumclaw.

My Grandma Hahto was a member at Trinity until she passed in January.  My parents also were married there.  I wish my Grandma Haugen and Grandma Hahto who are both Lutheran could have been there for Tyson's special day, but I know they were watching from Heaven.

Tyson shared his day with his cousin Ava.  It was a beautiful day and Tyson was lucky enough to have 4 families as his sponsors.  They are, Brian and Melanie Jensen, BJ and Nicci Haugen, Marci Haugen, and Keri.  The church was filled with family and friends there to support Tyson and Ava. Tyson slept throughout the entire sermon, and woke for his actual baptism.  He was a perfect angel and didn't say a peep :)

We had a wonderful reception at my parent's house.  Everybody came to eat, socialize, and celebrate the baptisms.  We really appreciate the support from our family and friends.

It's Been Awhile!

If you are reading this, you can thank my Aunt Marilyn for kicking my butt back into Blogging!  It's been so long and I have so many blogs to post.  Where did I leave off?

I returned back to school on April 2nd.  I considered calling my principal on April 1st and telling him I wasn't coming back for the year as an April Fool's Joke but decided he might not think that was very funny (even though he's the coolest principal in the world).

My first day back felt like the first day of school all over again!  I was nervous and was worried the kids weren't going to like me :(  I made the decision to choose a young long term sub for my position, fresh out of college.  She was amazing and the kids LOVED her!  They called me Ms. Pries for the entire first week back.  I'm sure Ms. Pries got called Mrs. Barker for quite awhile while she was there.  Anyway, the kids were so welcoming which made me feel great!  They gave me hugs, told me they missed me, a couple of them even brought me gifts!  They made a difficult first week back well worth it and not so difficult.

My friends and family also made me feel happy to be back.  My wonderful husband sent me flowers, as did my sisters.  My girlfriend Dianna who teaches Kindergarten brought me in some flowers and a mother of a student I had last year also sent in flowers as well as a picture frame to put a picture of Tyson in.  I feel so lucky that so many people cared about me, my classroom looked and smelled like a floral shop.

I planned my return perfectly because after working 5 days, I was on SPRING BREAK for 9 days and back holding my baby every day :)  I look forward to ending the year with such a wonderful class.  I love my students.

Ps. I only called home twice on my first day.  Pretty good I think.

2 Month Check Up

It's hard to believe Tyson is already two months (and 1 day old) today.   I know it sounds cliche but where does the time go?  I have enjoyed every second of Tyson and I'm pretty sure Adam would say the same thing.  I am lucky to look at every opportunity spent with my son as a blessing, even when he's crying and not easily falling asleep (which is very rare).

My girlfriend Janelle who has a baby a month older than Tyson invited me to a class held at Good Samaritan Hospital called Mommy and Baby Support Group.  I wasn't sure if it was the right class for me, I really didn't feel like I needed "support" but decided to go anyway. After I attended the first class, I fell in love.  It is a wonderful place for mommys and babies to meet and just talk.  There is a wonderful teacher in there to offer advice, support, or whatever need be.  I go every Tuesday and really look forward to talking with moms and watching our babies grow.  Last week we celebrated with green food for St. Patrick's Day and learned how to give CPR to a baby.

Yesterday when we introduced ourselves, we were encouraged to fill in the blank, "I wish someone would have told me ...."  I struggled with this question because I feel like everybody told me everything.... too much even.  I was saddened to hear many of the "blanks" mothers were filling in.  Many moms talked about their postpartum depression and depression of dealing with having a cesarean section.  I, myself, had a c section and had a pretty difficult recovery physically but no way did I feel depressed by it.  I thank God that I had a healthy recovery and that I am able to enjoy every second with Tyson.

At Tyson's two month appointment, we learned he is:
13 lbs 9 ounces
23 1/2 inches
perfectly healthy
a pretty tough guy when he got his three shots, only crying a little

Here is his 2 month picture:

Where does the time go?

On Monday, February 20th, we celebrated Tyson's one month birthday!  I can't believe it's already been a month!  Throughout my pregnancy, people kept telling me to enjoy every moment because it goes by so fast, and they were right... and I have been!  Tyson celebrated his 1 month birthday by eating, sleeping, and going potty in his diaper.  He also paused to pose for a few pictures.

Each month I plan to take a picture of Tyson with his cow pillow so we can watch him grow.  One day, he won't be able to fit on it  :) Here month 1:
As you can see, Tyson has more hair than the average 1 month old.  We're trying to find a safe product to put in that mane of his to control it a little better!

Valentine's Day

Tyson and I had an action packed Valentine's Day!

We started out the day by going to our first Valentine's party at Mommy and Me class at Good Samaritan Hospital.  At the party, my friend Shelly took pictures of all the babies.  She did a wonderful job, and I even snuck a mommy and son picture.  I love it because I don't have any!

We all brought in treats and some of us (not me) made valentine's.  I sat and talked with my good friend Janelle and watched Shelly's daughter while Shelly was taking pictures.  I also talked to other mothers about being a mommy :)  I love going and getting out the house with my little guy!

After the hospital, Tyson and I met my sister Melanie, her daughter Kailey, and my mom at Hop Jack's for lunch.  It was fun to see all of Kailey's valentine's from her pre-school.

Then, Tyson, my mother, and I went to my classroom's Valentine Party!  This was my first day back to school since I went on maternity leave on January 13th.  I was so excited to see my students and introduce them to Tyson, but I was a little nervous also.  I was worried about germs and Tyson crying :)  It turned out wonderfully. Tyson did great and it was SO good to see my class.  I miss them all so much!  They showered me with hugs and valentines!

When we were leaving, they presented me with a "How to" guide on "How to Be the Best Parents Ever."  Each student in class wrote a five paragraph essay on how to be the best parents.  Adam and I had a great time reading them.  It was so thoughtful of my long term substitute to organize this for me.  Some of the suggestions were: play football with Tyson, bring Tyson to Disneyland, let him play video games, etc. It will definitely be a gift I will always cherish!

I was so lucky to have two Valentine's this year - my amazing husband Adam and my perfect son Tyson!

Story Time at the Bonney Lake Library

On Friday, my mother and I brought my two nieces and Tyson to story time at the Bonney Lake Library.  Story time for newborn-24 months is offered twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays.  It was my first time going, and my mom's first time going with her two granddaughters.  She has taken Kailey before but never Kailey AND Ava.  My mom is amazing and did a wonderful job balancing both girls.  Ava was a social butterfly and was out in the middle with the rest of the kids playing with toys and dancing away - it was really cute.  Kailey decided to hang back with nana and Tyson :)

The class was a lot of fun and the teacher was AMAZING!  We sang songs, played with a parachute, listened to stories, clapped, shaked noise makers, etc.  Tyson was ready to participate quite yet as he ate, slept, and layed on his blankie the entire time but I'm excited to get the opportunity to expose him to fun classes like this.

My mom and I plan on taking the kids every Wednesday and Friday.  Hopefully Ava's mom, Nicci, will be able to attend in the future.

Mommy and Me Class!

On Tuesday, I went with my girlfriend and college roommate Janelle to a mommy and me class at Good Samaritan Hospital which is where I delivered.  Janelle has a son that is just a month older than Tyson and has been attending for the last few weeks.  The class is offered on Tuesdays and is a great reason to get out of the house and enjoy some time with Tysee!

The class was a lot of fun.  We sat around in a circle with about 20 other moms and just talked about our babies.  There is a teacher that mediates for us and offers great advice.  I was really worried about bringing Tyson into a "classroom" for the first time but he did great!  Kids were crying, mom's were feeding, diapers were being changed and Tyson and I fit right into the mix!

Tyson slept for the first twenty minutes, ate for the next twenty, and stared at the other kids for the last twenty.  It was fun to see the other babies and talk with moms.

I'm really looking forward to our Valentine Party next week!  I need to figure out what to bring to it though... I'm just starting to be able to manage bringing Tyson places!  There is going to be a photographer there so I"m really looking forward to finally getting a picture taken with my boy.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, Back to Work Adam Goes...

Yesterday was the first day back to work for Adam and I was extremely nervous.  Adam and I make a really good team in all areas in life, including taking care of Tyson.  He's been very helpful in changing diapers, swaddling him, etc.  He always got up with me in the middle of the night to bring Tyson to me because my incision was still a little sore.

Now that he's back to work, I want him to get as much sleep at night as possible so I have taken on the late shift alone (knowing Adam will help me).  I was/am pleasantly surprised on how well it has gone so far... I can handle it all by myself after all!

Yesterday, my girlfriend Rachel came over to meet Tyson for the first time.  It was so wonderful to see her and catch up a bit. She has two boys at home herself so she was able to give me some great advice.  Later, Tyson and I took an hour nap together.  I love when he sleeps on my chest.

When Adam got home from work, we took Tyse to his two week appointment.  He is already weighing 10 lbs 2 ounces! He looks great all around!  We determined he won't be a blood donor anytime soon because he screamed when he had to get his foot pricked to give a blood sample.

I look forward to the bonding time with Tyson while I'm on break!

Too Funny Not to Share

Last night I woke up to feed Tyson at around 2ish am like usual.  In the middle of the night, when it's time to feed, Adam gets Tyson out of his basinette and brings him to me.  That way I can stay in bed and just feed Tyse comfortably :) I love breastfeeding and have found it to be a wonderful bonding experience between my son and I.  The first few seconds of pain are totally worth knowing Tyson's receiving healthy nutrients.  About halfway into his eating, I started to feel a really warm sensation.  I looked down, and realized he was peeing and it was running completely out of his diaper, through his onesie, sleeper, and onto me!

I was in shock and couldn't help but laugh about the situation.  I was soaked!  We changed Tyse real fast in order to let him continue to eat.  I decided to take off my saturated tank and just sleep topless for the rest of the night.  Once Tyson latched on again, I looked down only to realize my other breast was leaking milk!

My sheets were wet, my duvet cover was wet, Tyson was wet, I was wet... it was quite a night and I'm sure the first of many.

Sorry if this was too much information to share, I just didn't want to forget the experience.

On another note, Staci visited all day today and we made a delicious dinner prepared by Ashley Van Dam which was very much appreciated.  We have felt so much love and support in Tyson's first ten days of life :)

Adam - Amazing Husband and Daddy

The boys taking a little nap during before bedtime
I wanted to take the time to "brag" about my husband, Adam.  He has been an incredible friend, husband, and now daddy.

From the moment we found out we were pregnant, Adam went to EVERY single doctor's appointment with me.  The only one he missed was when I shocked myself in the electrical socket and he was at work.  :(  I feel so blessed that Adam went to every appointment.

As a father, Adam has been even more amazing.  He gets up every night with Tyson and I when it's time to feed.  We have a pretty awesome routine down, actually.  After 3-4 hours of sleeping, we wake Tyson up, Adam gets Tyson out of his basinette and brings him to me in bed to feed.  Then, Adam helps me change Tyson's diaper and puts him back in his basinette. I love watching him give Tyson a kiss and telling him he loves him.

Adam is extremely hands on.  He changes diapers and gets him dressed, almost more than I do.  He loves to spend every second with Tyson.  I don't know what I'll done when Adam has to go back to work :(

There is nothing more precious then seeing your husband hold your baby.  I love them both so much.

Nicole and Brian Levenhagen

Tyson Henry Barker

After 41 weeks of waiting.. Tyson Henry Barker has entered the world and Adam and I couldn't be happier.

Tyson was due on Friday, January 13th and made his appearance on Friday, January 20th - my half birthday!  On Wednesday, the 17th, we had a routine doctor appointment and at the appointment, our doctor made a phone call to the hopsital to schedule an induction for that Sunday, January 22nd with a Monday, January 23rd expected due date (Adam and my half anniversary).  We were excited about having a date set knowing we would be holding our precious baby in no time.

The next day (Thursday, the 19th), I woke up having contractions.  This was right in the middle of "Snowmaggedon" which just so happened to be the worst snow storm we've had in twenty years.  I laid on the couch, looking at the snow on the ground and freezing rain come down while counting contractions and breathing to control them.  The night before, I started to have some excessive bleeding when I urinated which scared me so I also had that to think about.  Finally, I called my doctor to make an appointment to come in and have her give me some positive piece of mind and tell me the blood was nothing to worry about.  Because of "snowmaggedon," my clinic was closed and my doctor wasn't returning my messages.

Finally, I decied to call the hospital and ask a nurse about it.  The nurse sounded concerned and asked me to come in to get checked out.  Adam and I decided a little piece of mind wouldn't be such a bad idea - especially with the weather being as bad as it was - icy roads, power out, ice falling from the sky, trees all over the roads, etc.  We packed up the car with almost everything, knowing we would probably be returning home.... we were wrong!

On our way to the hospital, I had only 2 contractions.  A couple hours later, I was having contractions a couple minutes apart for a minute - at that point, they decided to admit me - we were there to stay and coming home with a baby!  We were both excited.... and felt like Tyson was looking after us and wanting us to be at the hospital with power :)  We got to the hopsital at around 2:30 and were hoping to go home in a couple days... that didn't happen.

Unfortunately, once I hit being dilated at a 7, I didn't move much. Because of how closes my contractions were, the fact that Tyson had turned face up, and he was measuring over 9 pounds, the helped me make the choice to have a C-section.  I was really upset about having to do this as I I really wanted to have him vaginally but by this point, I just wanted to meet my little boy and wanted what was best for the both of us.

Tyson was born at 12:48 and weighed 9 pounds 8 ounces.  He was 21 1/4 inches tall and his head was covered in dark brown hair.  He is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and by far my best accomplishment.  I have a little soreness but Tyson is completely worth it.

On a side note... Adam was sitting next to me during my surgery comforting me by talking to me.  He had mentioned that he couldn't wait to go golfing with Tyson in a couple years.  That's when my conversation with Adam went from being with me to being with the surgeon!  Immediately after Adam mentioned golfing with Tyse, the surgeon and him had a full on conversation about golfing at a young age and how cute the new golf clubs are (she was clearly an avid golfer).  Even after Tyson was born and Adam had taken him away, I could still hear the conversation was about golf... I guess we picked the right surgeon to do our surgery :)

In Memory of Goldie Ethel Hahto

Sadly, I lost my other grandma during my pregnancy.  It makes me really sad to know Tyson will never get to meet my grandmothers.  I do feel good in knowing, however, that I was able to tell my Grandma Haugen that I was pregnant and my Grandma Hahto was able to come to my baby shower.  She even made me a beautiful quilt for Tyson which will be even more special now.

I was able to visit my grandma twice last weekend and told her goodbye and I love her.  I find comfort in knowing she did not suffer for a long time because they gave her 3 days to 3 weeks and she passed within the first week.  She was comfortable and the last time I saw her, she was smiling and in good spirits.

I will miss Grandma Hahto very much, I hope she's enjoying being with Grandpa and Grandma Haugen again.

Week 40 Dr. Appointment

Last night Adam and I had our Week 40 Dr. Appointment.  As of today, we are 1 day away from our due date!  I was anxious to see what the doctor had to say and here is what she said... nothing!  I am not dialated at all!

My weight has stayed consistent, but my tummy grew 4 cm!  My blood pressure looks great as does everything else.

She ordered an ultra sound for next Tuesday to check the weight of the baby and make sure he has enough fluid around him.  This appointment will help her decide on whether or not she wants to induce.  Otherwise, it's just a waiting game.... I'm still shooting for January 20th... my half birthday!

My doctor told me Friday was my last day of work, which is tomorrow.  I am so sad to leave my students but am defnitely getting worn out at work.  I will miss all my friends at work but hope to see them a lot during my maternity leave.

Pregnancy Doesn't Suck

For me pregnancy, in general, doesn't suck... but there are some things I am really looking forward to once our bundle of joy enters this world!

  • Being able to shave my legs without feeling a pinch - I have been lucky enough to be able to shave my legs every day though so it hasn't been too terrible.
  • Being able to put on my shoes in the morning without it pinching
  • Being able to take my shoes off at the end of the day when my feet and ankles have swollen - Adam has had to take them off many times
  • Not having to use the restroom 4-5 times a night to pee
  • Not hitting my student in the head when I walk by him thinking I had plenty of room between us
  • Being able to wear normal jeans again... thank God leggings are in style though!
  • Not feeling totally exhausted when I get home from school
  • Having more energy to teach in the classroom
  • Painting my toe nails
  • Not having heartburn... it's the WORST!
  • Being able to wear ALL my shoes and not just certain pairs
God has blessed me with a pretty good pregnancy and I am so thankful for though.  Other than the 1st trimester vomiting, I am extremely lucky to be 2 days away from my due date and still feeling good enough to work!

My Stretch Mark Free Cocktail

As I was in the shower this morning, lubing my body up, I thought about the fact that I am so far stretch mark free despite the fact that my belly is huge.  I know everybody's bodies and skin types are different but I thought I'd share my Stretch Mark Free Cocktail... hopefully it doesnt jinx me.

When I'm done doing everything else in the shower (washing hair, exfoliating, shaving, etc.), I mix almond oil and vitamin e together and slather it all over anything that is growing (belly, thighs, breasts, hips, etc.)  I do it at the end because I don't want to get the oils in my hair... it can be quite slippery.

Once I'm out of the shower, I apply a very liberal amount of Coconut Body Butter from the Body Shop, again, over anything that's getting bigger.  I usually apply so much that my skin is still white from the lotion.

I will post a picture of the products soon.  I hope it works for you like it has for me!

We made it to January! When will we meet our little guy?

Our due date is January 13th so it's about that time to start wondering when Tyson will arrive.  For one of my showers, my sister Marci made an adorable calendar for my friends to guess Tyson's due date.  Now that it's January, Adam and I decided to take the calendar out for fun to track the daily guesses.  We have it on our kitchen counter, my mom guessed today (because it's her birthday).  As much as I want to meet Tyson, I hope it's not today because my mom and sister Melanie are sick.

My prediction: January 10th
Adam's prediction: January 9th

Here is the calendar.... who will the winner be?

Happy New Year!

Today is the first day of the year 2012!  Since Adam and I have been together, we've only made it to midnight once in the past 5 years!  Not by acccident, by choice!  We both feel New Years is overrated and in our old ages, we find it difficult to stay up past midnight!  I was extremely content in having watched New Years in New York on tv.

Last night, we went up to bed at 11:17pm but with all the fireworks going off (in the sky), we actually were awake past midnight.  I only know this because I heard some idiot yell Happy New Year in our neighborhood, followed by 20 minutes of loud fireworks.

I woke up this morning to find out one of my good friends, Michele became engaged!  I am so thrilled for her and can't wait to celebrate.  It's good motivation to get my body back in shape after the baby so I can wear a bathing suit at her bachelorette party :)  Congrats Michele, you will be a beautiful bride!

I'm not a big fan of New Years resolutions but I have a couple this year:
1. Deliver a healthy baby
2. Enjoy every moment of my baby's first year of life.  I have two nieces and know how fast kids grow up.  I don't want to miss anything!

Enjoy 2012!  I just know it will be an incredible one for Adam and I!
